Interior design and implementation

Having an interior designed and executed requires clear agreements on who designs, who orders, who builds, and who oversees decisions. Rive Home can connect design and supervision; the precise tasks and involved parties are agreed upon per project.

From a beautiful plan to an actionable brief

A visualization shows the look and feel you are striving for, but it does not always tell a contractor enough to build. Realization may require dimensions, connection details, material codes, product choices, and an installation sequence. Which documents are necessary depends on the nature of the project.

Therefore, start by asking what result you want to hand over. A contractor renovating a room needs different information than a supplier delivering a single sofa. Also, discuss which technical details the executing party will work out themselves.

Who is responsible for what?

Component Agreement to be recorded
Design choices Who presents options, who gives approval, and when is the choice finalized?
Technical development Which specialist checks construction, installation, or production data?
Quotes and orders Who is the client for each supplier and who checks quantities and specifications?
On-site planning Who coordinates activities, access, and deliveries?
Changes Who discusses the consequences for price, design, and schedule before work proceeds?
Handover and aftercare Who notes remaining snags and who fixes which part?

Having one point of contact does not automatically mean that all work is covered by a single contracting party. Ask for the actual division of tasks.

The handover in four steps

  1. Record design choices. Gather approved layouts, materials, and fixed elements. Note any decisions that are still pending.
  2. Align execution. Have suppliers and contractors verify their proposals against the same drawings and specifications.
  3. Check before ordering. Coordinate dimensions, color codes, quantities, delivery times, and accessibility. Designate who is responsible for the final check.
  4. Keep changes visible. Work with an up-to-date set of documents and a summary of decisions so that everyone knows what is currently applicable.

Where do misunderstandings arise?

A telling example is a cabinet wall next to a newly laid floor. The interior carpenter needs to know the floor height, the floor layer needs to know where the cabinet will be, and the electrician needs to know where power is required. If parties work from different versions, each may deliver correct work individually while the final connection still fails.

A second interface issue is the space required for curtains near a ceiling or cabinet. Reserve that space before final measurements are approved. This type of coordination is a reason to explicitly define guidance, rather than just using the word realization.

How much guidance do you want to outsource?

You can manage orders and planning yourself and submit specific design questions. You can also discuss whether Rive Home should be more intensively involved in material choices, suppliers, and execution. The choice depends on your available time, the number of parties involved, and the complexity of the home.

Rive Home works with a fixed quote per project. Make sure the desired level of involvement is concretely reflected in it. For your total budget, also keep track of the amounts for construction, products, and assembly. See how to keep those budget components separate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my own contractor?

Bring up any existing collaboration early on. Subsequently, it must be made clear what information the contractor requires, who will handle the technical development, and how consultations will be organized.

Is construction management the same as architectural supervision?

No, those terms can encompass different tasks. Reach a concrete agreement on which inspections will be performed and what architectural or installation-technical expertise will be deployed for them.

Can a design still be changed during execution?

That may be necessary, but first have the consequences for dimensions, other work, budget and delivery assessed. Document the decision before the change is implemented.

What should I ask during the final inspection?

Check the agreed work and record any remaining items with a responsible party and a follow-up appointment. Also ask for maintenance information and product documentation for the supplied parts.
