Rive Home | From interior vision to design plan
Interior design Bennebroek
Relocating a kitchen, creating more storage space, or combining living and working requires making choices regarding the floor plan. For an interior design project for your home in Bennebroek, we examine how the spaces should function. We then develop the layout, materials, and fixed elements in cohesion.
Connecting spaces without making them the same
Project Aerdenhout is an interior design that Rive Home created for a private client in 2026. In the bedroom, the closets, bed, and the view through to the bathroom are visually connected. In the kitchen, the tall wooden cabinets and the island form a different composition while maintaining the same material direction.
A design is therefore as much about the individual space as it is about the transition to the next. The project page showcases this Aerdenhout design in greater detail.
A design brief that goes beyond mood boards
For a layout plan, functions must be clear first. How many people eat at the table daily? Should a workspace be able to be tucked away? Which items require permanent storage space? Such questions determine the space allocated to furniture and custom work.
Then we establish what remains, what can change, and which components still need to be investigated. A new kitchen, for example, has consequences for the location of the dining table, traffic flow, and lighting. These dependencies are part of the fundamental principles before individual components are selected.
What we test on the floor plan
Use and traffic flow
We examine how you move from the entrance to the kitchen, the seating area, and other rooms. A layout must also work when chairs are in use, cabinet doors are open, or multiple people are in the room at the same time.
Sightlines and fixed elements
What do you see upon entering, from the sofa, and at the table? Cabinets, doors, and lighting are part of that composition. We also look at what the transition to an adjacent room looks like.
From a chosen layout to concrete execution
A convincing mood board does not yet tell you how the interior will be built. Therefore, we agree on what level of detail is required for your next step. This could be a furniture layout, materials plan, lighting direction, or further elaboration of custom work. Visualizations can help to evaluate choices when that is part of the assignment.
For ordering and production, dimensions, connections, and execution must be checked with the relevant parties. A sales floor plan is useful for starting the conversation, but it is not automatically a production or execution drawing.
Three decision moments in the design
- The functions and the layout. First, we determine what goes where and which existing components influence the plan.
- The material and lighting direction. Then, we look at how fixed elements, finishes, and lighting support each other.
- The required detailing. For the next phase, we establish what needs to be further elaborated, checked, or coordinated.
The amount of drawing work and coordination depends on the assignment. We make agreements about this in advance, including the moments when you make choices.
Having a design created, with or without completion
You can have an interior design created while the executing parties have not yet been determined. Mention this early on so it is clear what information will be needed later for the handover. Design and execution are not an automatically bundled package.
Do you want to involve Rive Home in the completion phase as well? Read how we coordinate design and completion for a renovation. If your question is not yet sharp, the interior advice Bennebroek page will help you determine the starting point.
Questions about an interior design
Can an existing kitchen remain part of the plan?
Yes. We then include the existing kitchen as a constraint and investigate how the rest of the space connects to it. This also applies to furniture and other fixed components that you wish to keep.
Is a 3D image always necessary?
No. It depends on the choices you want to be able to evaluate. For some questions, a floor plan provides sufficient guidance. For spatial coherence, a visualization can be helpful. We agree on which form of presentation fits the assignment.
